“The giver of every good and perfect gift has called upon us to mimic His giving, by grace, through faith, and this is not of ourselves.” — St. Nicholas of Myra
Saint Nicholas of Myra is my patron saint. I was born on his feast day; December 06. Way back, I didn’t know him. I’m like those other people who know Santa Claus more than St. Nicholas. But one day, I got curious if there is a saint celebrating his/her feast day on my birthday then I saw the name of St. Nicholas.
I remember the story of him, giving gifts and gold secretly. St. Nicholas used his wealth, being a nobleman to help other people who are in need. Most likely found inspiration in the words of Jesus to his disciples.
When you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. (Matthew 6:3-4)
It’s amazing that he is my patron saint and one of my love languages is giving gifts. I always try to give something that I think someone else needs. There is something about giving. No matter how small or big it is, the most important is it is done from a loving heart, not desiring any personal recognition, but only desiring the good of the other person.
St. Nicholas of Myra, pray for us!
